Family Group Conferences (FGC’s) are a decision making forum on what should happen in the future in relation to any number of issues, they are primarily, but not exclusively used for cases involving young people, and are usually held to produce plans for young people who are considered at risk.
Family group conferencing is a process that can be used for involving the extended family and agency resources to address the risk factors related with social exclusion and the needs of children and their families.
The young person and their extended family meet in the conference with the agency representatives to agree and review a plan to deal with the risk factors associated with social exclusion, minimising the chances of young people offending, engaging in anti-social behaviour, poor education attainment, teenage pregnancy etc.
